A Note to Visitors
Clearwater Fundamental Middle School is a Pinellas School District public school of choice. Fundamental schools create a partnership between parents, students and school to promote highest student achievement through structure, student responsibility, homework and parental involvement. Students adhere to well-defined discipline and dress codes emphasizing respect and responsibility. Parents must attend PTA (Parent Teacher Association) or SAC (School Advisory Council) meetings, scheduled parent conferences and provide transportation for their children.
There are no specific criteria for admittance to fundamental schools. Students apply and are selected on a lottery basis. Parents and students must sign a contract committing to the fundamental philosophy and responsibilities.
Our students are high achievers, earning a grade of "A" from the State of Florida for the past 5 years. CFMS teachers are extremely dedicated and loyal to the school, voting seven years in a row to reinvest their school recognition money. No other school in the state has done that.
The curriculum at CFMS is academically focused, with required nightly homework, structured classrooms and high expectations for student performance. Our electives consist of art, music, Spanish, wellness and computers. While there are no competitive sports, we do offer intramural programs in volleyball and basketball.
At the end of each grading period we have a "Talent Showcase" in which we recognize honor students, present special awards and enjoy the talent of our students in areas such as singing, piano, gymnastics, dance and magic. We also have several different clubs and organizations on campus such as Student Council, Chess Club, Dance Club, S.T.E.P., National Junior Honor Society and FCS.
Students go on to attend a large number of district high schools. Many apply and are accepted to high school "magnet" programs such as the International Baccalaureate program, the program for International Culture and Commerce, the Arts program, the 21st Century Learning Center and the medical magnet. Clearwater Fundamental students leave well prepared for success in whatever areas of study they may choose.
